Volker Eisele Family Estate: A Rich Heritage of Excellence
Nestled in the heart of the Napa Valley, Volker Eisele Family Estate stands as a testament to the dedication, passion, and vision of its namesake founder and his family. With a history that spans over five decades, the winery has established itself as a pioneer in sustainable farming practices, crafting exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Let us embark on a journey through the captivating history of Volker Eisele Family Estate.
Founded in 1974 by Volker Eisele, a German immigrant with a profound love for viticulture, the winery began as a modest venture on the 40-acre property located in the Chiles Valley District near St. Helena. Inspired by the noble winemaking traditions of Europe and the potential he saw in the Napa Valley's microclimate, Volker set out to create a winery that would produce wines of exceptional quality while respecting the natural environment.
Right from the outset, Volker Eisele embraced sustainable farming practices, going beyond conventional wisdom to foster the health of the vineyard's ecosystem. He understood that a healthy soil, balanced with nutrients and organic matter, would yield grapes of exceptional quality. By reducing chemical inputs and employing cover crops, he maintained the long-term health of the vineyard and ensured the sustainability of his farming methods. This early commitment to organic and sustainable agriculture laid the foundation for what would become one of the Napa Valley's leading sustainable wineries.
Volker Eisele's dedication to excellence extended beyond the vineyard and into the winemaking process. With meticulous attention to detail, he crafted wines that captured the essence of the estate's unique terroir. He believed that showcasing the distinct flavors and characteristics of each grape variety and vineyard block was essential to producing wines of exceptional quality. By fermenting each grape lot separately and employing gentle winemaking techniques, he achieved this vision - producing wines that displayed both elegance and purity.
In the early 1990s, Volker Eisele's daughter, Cindy Eisele, took the reins of the family business and continued her father's legacy with unwavering conviction. Building upon his visionary sustainable farming practices, Cindy became an advocate for organic and biodynamic farming. In 2008, Volker Eisele Family Estate received organic certification, reinforcing their commitment to environmental stewardship and setting new standards in the industry.
Today, Volker Eisele Family Estate remains family-owned and operated. Cindy Eisele, together with her husband, Markuis, and their two children, Erik and Laureen, meticulously maintain the estate's legacy. Erik, an enologist, studied viticulture and oenology at the esteemed California Polytechnic State University, and Laureen brings her expertise from working with renowned wineries worldwide. With this generational transition, the winery continues to evolve while staying true to its core values: crafting exceptional wines that express the vineyard's distinctive terroir with minimal intervention.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
