Peltier Winery & Vineyards
History
Peltier Winery & Vineyards, nestled in the heart of Lodi, California, is a family-owned and operated winery with a rich history dating back several decades. The Peltier family's journey in viticulture and winemaking began in the late 1950s when Bob and Marilyn Peltier purchased a small vineyard in the Mokelumne River AVA, a region known for its exceptional grape-growing conditions.
Initially, the Peltier family focused on selling their grapes to other wineries, contributing to the growth of the Lodi wine industry. However, it wasn't until the early 1980s that they decided to start producing their own wines. With a deep-seated passion for winemaking, the Peltiers transformed their vineyard into a thriving winery, setting the stage for the success they would achieve in the years to come.
In 2001, Rodney Schatz, Bob and Marilyn's son-in-law, joined the family business as the winemaker. Rodney's commitment to quality and innovation quickly became the driving force behind Peltier Winery's rise to prominence. Under Rodney's guidance, the winery expanded its operations, acquired additional vineyards in Lodi, and gained recognition for its exceptional wines.
One significant milestone in Peltier Winery's history occurred in 2005 when they established the Peltier Station brand. Peltier Station was created as a separate entity to showcase the unique terroir and diverse grape varieties that thrive in the Lodi AVA. This expansion allowed Peltier Winery to produce a broader range of wines while remaining true to their commitment to excellence.
Notably, Peltier Winery & Vineyards is known for its sustainable farming practices and commitment to environmental stewardship. They were one of the first wineries in Lodi to be certified sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA). Peltier Winery implements cutting-edge techniques such as precision viticulture, water conservation, and soil preservation measures to ensure the long-term health of their vineyards and the surrounding ecosystem.
In recent years, Peltier Winery has gained recognition for its innovative approach to winemaking. They utilize state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to craft wines that reflect the unique character of the Lodi region. From classic varietals such as Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon to lesser-known gems like AlbariƱo and Verdelho, Peltier Winery offers a diverse portfolio that caters to all palates.
Furthermore, Peltier Winery is renowned for its commitment to experimentation and pushing the boundaries of winemaking. They have been instrumental in introducing lesser-known grape varieties to the Lodi region, such as Teroldego and Sagrantino, sparking intrigue and curiosity among wine lovers seeking something new and exciting.
Peltier Winery & Vineyards also boasts a stunning and welcoming tasting room, providing visitors with a memorable experience. The tasting room is adorned with beautiful artwork, reflecting the Peltier family's appreciation for both wine and art. Guests can enjoy a personalized tasting experience, learn about the winemaking process, and gain insights into the unique characteristics of each wine.
With its dedication to quality, sustainability, and innovation, Peltier Winery & Vineyards has firmly established itself as a leader in the Lodi wine industry. The family's unwavering commitment to producing exceptional wines, combined with their love for the land and community, continues to shape Peltier Winery's legacy as a cornerstone of California winemaking.
Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
