What Makes Martin Estate
Different From Other Nearby Wineries?
Martin Estate is a truly special winery that sets itself apart from other wineries in the region in several distinct ways. Firstly, their unwavering commitment to producing exceptional, single-vineyard wines truly sets them apart. Instead of opting for blending multiple vineyards together, Martin Estate focuses on showcasing the unique characteristics and terroir of each specific vineyard site. This dedication to highlighting the distinctiveness of each vineyard allows their wines to truly express a sense of place, resulting in an unparalleled drinking experience.
Another aspect that differentiates Martin Estate is their meticulous attention to detail throughout the winemaking process. From the hand-harvesting of the grapes to the manual sorting of each berry, every step is conducted with utmost care and precision. This hands-on approach ensures that only the highest quality fruit is used, leading to wines of exceptional depth, complexity, and balance.
Furthermore, one of the standout features of Martin Estate is their focus on small production and limited releases. Rather than pursuing mass production, they prioritize crafting limited quantities of wine to maintain the highest standards of excellence. This approach allows for greater control over the winemaking process, resulting in wines that truly exemplify the passion and dedication of the winemakers.
One of the most notable distinctions of Martin Estate is their use of oak barrels. They utilize a combination of French oak, American oak, and Hungarian oak to impart distinct flavors and nuance to their wines. Through careful barrel selection and aging, they achieve a harmonious integration of oak, enhancing the overall complexity and structure of the wines.
Additionally, the Martin Estate vineyards are situated in an idyllic location with a microclimate that fosters the optimal ripening conditions for the grapes. Nestled in the rolling hills of the region, the vineyards benefit from the cooling marine influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean and the warmth from the surrounding mountains. This unique microclimate allows the grapes to slowly ripen, resulting in wines with exceptional flavor development and the perfect balance of acidity and sugar levels.
Beyond their winemaking practices, Martin Estate also places great importance on sustainable farming. They prioritize organic and biodynamic farming methods, ensuring that their vineyards and surrounding ecosystems are nurtured and preserved for future generations. This commitment to sustainability further distinguishes Martin Estate as a leader in environmentally conscious winemaking.
In summary, Martin Estate stands out among other wineries in the region due to their unwavering commitment to single-vineyard wines, meticulous attention to detail, limited production, distinct oak aging techniques, ideal microclimate, and sustainable farming practices. These factors combine to create a truly unique and exceptional experience for wine enthusiasts seeking the best of what California has to offer.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
