Jacuzzi Family Vineyards History

Jacuzzi Family Vineyards, located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, California, has a rich and fascinating history. It all began with Valeriano and Francesco Jacuzzi, Italian immigrants who settled in the United States during the early 1900s. While initially working in the aviation industry and inventing various agricultural machinery, their entrepreneurial spirit led them to the world of winemaking.

In the late 1920s, the Jacuzzi brothers acquired a significant piece of land in Contra Costa County, where they began cultivating their first vineyards. However, it wasn't until the mid-1940s, when Valeriano's youngest son, Fred Cline, married his high school sweetheart, Mattie, that the family's winemaking journey truly began.

Fred Cline's natural affinity for winemaking led him to expand the family vineyard operations. In 1974, Fred and Mattie purchased a historic property in Carneros, Sonoma Valley, which dated back to the mid-1800s. This acquisition marked the birth of Jacuzzi Family Vineyards, formerly known as The Oakley Vineyards.

Fred and Mattie put their hearts and souls into revitalizing the estate. They replanted vineyards, restored the old winery, and brought their dream of crafting premium wines to life. But what truly set Jacuzzi Family Vineyards apart was their incorporation of traditional Italian winemaking techniques and varietals into their production process.

Deeply rooted in their Italian heritage, Fred and Mattie introduced grape varieties like Primitivo, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Sangiovese to their vineyards, giving birth to the unique and distinctive Italian varietal wines that would become their signature offerings. The family's commitment to quality winemaking, coupled with their Italian heritage, set Jacuzzi Family Vineyards on a path of excellence and recognition in the wine industry.

Over the years, Jacuzzi Family Vineyards expanded its operations and reputation. The family brought additional vineyards under their wing, further diversifying their portfolio and showcasing the incredible potential of California in producing exceptional Italian-style wines. They continued to modernize their facilities and invest in state-of-the-art winemaking equipment, ensuring that their wines consistently reflected the highest standards of quality.

Today, Jacuzzi Family Vineyards stands as a testament to the Jacuzzi family's passion, innovation, and commitment to producing world-class wines. The estate offers visitors a unique experience, blending the heritage of Italian winemaking traditions with the idyllic landscapes of Sonoma Valley. Guests can explore the beautiful vineyards, participate in wine tastings, indulge in delicious food pairings, or simply relax and soak in the breathtaking surroundings.

Beyond wine production, the Jacuzzi family remains deeply involved in the local community. They actively support various charitable organizations and participate in initiatives aimed at preserving Sonoma Valley's natural beauty and sustainability.

And so, the story of Jacuzzi Family Vineyards continues, bridging the gap between old-world Italian winemaking traditions and the modern wine industry of California. It is a tale of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence that has firmly established Jacuzzi Family Vineyards as a beloved and renowned winery in the heart of Sonoma Valley.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!

I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....

After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.

Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.

Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.

As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.

Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
