This blending technique is a departure from the traditional focus on single varietals and showcases their creativity and passion for experimentation.
Moreover, Four Brix Winery embraces the concept of "food-friendly wines." Instead of crafting wines that overpower and dominate the palate, their wines are intended to pair harmoniously with food. They believe that a great wine enhances the dining experience, and the winery's focus on food compatibility sets them apart from many of their peers.
Additionally, Four Brix Winery prides itself on its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. They prioritize sustainable farming practices, utilizing organic and biodynamic methods whenever possible to minimize their impact on the land. By embracing these practices, they are able to produce wines that not only taste exceptional but also reflect their dedication to the preservation of the environment.
Furthermore, Four Brix Winery offers a memorable and educational tasting experience. Four Brix Winery
History
Four Brix Winery is a family-owned and operated boutique winery located in Ventura, California. Founded in 2008 by Gary and Karen Stewart, this winery takes its name from the four wine regions that have influenced their winemaking style: Italy, France, Spain, and California.
The journey of Four Brix Winery began when Gary and Karen, both passionate wine enthusiasts, decided to explore the world of winemaking. Inspired by their travels to renowned wine regions, they saw an opportunity to bring a taste of these international flavors back to California. With a vision of blending different grape varietals and winemaking techniques, the Stewarts embarked on an adventure to create unique and exceptional wines.
The idea for Four Brix Winery took shape during a visit to Sonoma County, where Gary and Karen fell in love with the concept of blending different wine styles. They saw the magic that happened when different grape varietals, aged in different types of oak, were expertly combined to create complex and harmonious flavors. This inspired them to bring this winemaking approach to California, with a twist of their own.
In 2008, the Stewarts officially launched Four Brix Winery, establishing their winery in Ventura. They acquired a charming old warehouse, which they renovated to accommodate a tasting room, a wine production area, and barrel storage. With their hard work and dedication, they transformed the space into an inviting and vibrant winery, becoming a hidden gem in the Ventura County wine scene.
Four Brix Winery quickly gained recognition for their innovative approach to winemaking. The Stewarts sourced their grapes from carefully selected vineyards across the Central Coast and other renowned California wine regions. They handcrafted each wine using traditional techniques, combined with their own unique blend of inspiration from their favorite international wine regions.
Italy, France, Spain, and California became their touchstones, providing the foundation for the winery's portfolio. The Stewarts sought to capture the essence of these regions in each bottle, creating wines that reflected the terroir, grape varietals, and winemaking traditions.
From the sunny and bold flavors of California to the old-world charm of France, Four Brix Winery crafted a wide range of varietals and blends. They experimented with classic Bordeaux-style blends, elegant Rhône-style wines, and robust Mediterranean-style reds. Embracing their love for exploration, the Stewarts also delved into lesser-known varietals and unique winemaking techniques, pushing the boundaries of traditional winemaking.
Over the years, Four Brix Winery continued to grow and gain acclaim for their outstanding wines. They received numerous accolades and awards, both locally and nationally, recognizing their dedication to quality and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of winemaking.
Beyond their passion for winemaking, the Stewarts have created a welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Four Brix Winery. They truly believe that wine is meant to be enjoyed with family and friends, which is reflected in their warm and inviting tasting room. Visitors have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of wines, learn about the art of blending, and explore the unique stories behind each label.
In summary, Four Brix Winery is a remarkable family-owned winery in Ventura, California, born from a love of international wine regions and a desire to blend the world's best flavors. With their innovative approach to winemaking and a dedication to crafting exceptional wines, Gary and Karen Stewart have created a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts seeking unique and memorable experiences.
Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
