Convergence Vineyards History

Convergence Vineyards is a historic winery situated in the heart of California's lush wine country. Its rich history dates back to the late 19th century when the land was first acquired by the pioneering winemaker, James Wallace. With a true vision for viticulture, Wallace recognized the exceptional potential of the region's varied terroir, and so began the legacy of Convergence Vineyards.

James Wallace was a fervent believer in the importance of diversity in winemaking. He meticulously selected different grape varieties, carefully considering soil compositions, sun exposure, and microclimates to create a truly unique and exceptional wine portfolio. His innovative approach earned him recognition and acclaim, positioning Convergence Vineyards as a leading force in the California wine industry.

Over the years, Convergence Vineyards went through several ownership changes, but the commitment to quality and innovation remained at the core of the winery's philosophy. In the early 20th century, the property was acquired by the esteemed Cameron family, who embraced modern techniques while respecting the winemaking traditions established by James Wallace.

The Cameron family expanded the vineyard holdings, adding new varietals to the estate while revitalizing older vineyards. Their dedication to sustainable farming practices and the preservation of the natural environment made Convergence Vineyards a benchmark for the industry.

In the late 1980s, Convergence Vineyards underwent a significant restoration, spearheaded by the renowned winemaker, Rebecca Thompson. Thompson's expertise and passion led to the introduction of cutting-edge winemaking technologies, while still maintaining a deep respect for the winery's heritage.

Under Thompson's guidance, Convergence Vineyards became celebrated for producing wines of remarkable depth and complexity. The unique microclimates of the estate, combined with Thompson's meticulous winemaking techniques, resulted in a diverse range of award-winning wines that showcased the true essence of California.

Today, Convergence Vineyards stands as a testament to the enduring legacy laid down by James Wallace and the subsequent custodians of the winery. The current owners, the Peterson family, continue to uphold the distinguished heritage while embracing innovation and sustainability.

Convergence Vineyards remains a cherished destination for wine enthusiasts, offering not only exceptional wines but also breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards. Visitors can explore the historic cellars, participate in educational wine tastings, and enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere that has defined the winery for over a century.

With its rich history, commitment to quality, and dedication to the art of winemaking, Convergence Vineyards continues to be an icon in the California wine industry. It represents the convergence of tradition and innovation, creating wines that capture the essence of the region's terroir and the passion of those who have shaped its history.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!

I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....

After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.

Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.

Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.

As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.

Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
