What Makes Cerro Caliente Cellars Different From Other Nearby Wineries?

Cerro Caliente Cellars stands out from other wineries in the region for several reasons. One of the key distinguishing factors is their unique location. Situated at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California, the winery enjoys an exceptional microclimate that greatly influences the flavor profile of their wines. The combination of warm and sunny days, cool nights, and the gentle mountain breeze nurtures the grapes, resulting in distinctive and exceptional quality wines.

Another notable aspect of Cerro Caliente Cellars is their commitment to sustainable and organic winemaking practices. The winery firmly believes in preserving the natural environment and minimizing their ecological footprint. They employ environmentally-friendly techniques, such as using cover crops to enhance the soil health, implementing water conservation strategies, and practicing biological pest control. This dedication to sustainability not only showcases their love for the land but also ensures the production of wines that are pure and free from unnecessary chemicals.

Furthermore, Cerro Caliente Cellars is well-known for their focus on crafting small-batch, artisanal wines. They prioritize quality over quantity, meticulously tending to each vine and hand-selecting only the finest grapes for their production. This hands-on approach allows the winery to maintain a high level of control over every step of the winemaking process, resulting in wines that truly speak of their unique terroir.

Moreover, Cerro Caliente Cellars prides itself on its diverse range of grape varietals. While many wineries in the region may focus on popular choices like Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay, Cerro Caliente Cellars takes a more adventurous approach by cultivating lesser-known varietals. This dedication to experimenting with different grapes and blends allows them to offer a more diverse and intriguing selection to wine enthusiasts.

Lastly, what truly sets Cerro Caliente Cellars apart is their warm and welcoming atmosphere. When visiting the winery, guests are often greeted by passionate and knowledgeable staff who are eager to share their love for winemaking. The winery regularly hosts events, tastings, and tours, providing a unique opportunity for wine lovers to connect with the winemaking process firsthand.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!

I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....

After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.

Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.

Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.

As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.

Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
