Vino V Wines
History
Vino V Wines is a renowned winery located in the heart of California's picturesque wine country. Founded in 1985 by renowned winemaker Victor Vincenzo, the winery has a rich and interesting history that has spanned over three decades.
Victor Vincenzo, a second-generation Italian-American winemaker, inherited his passion for winemaking from his father, who was also an accomplished vintner. Growing up in the vineyards of northern California, Victor developed a deep appreciation for the art of winemaking and a keen understanding of the region's unique climate and soil conditions.
In the early years of Vino V Wines, Victor Vincenzo focused on cultivating traditional European grape varieties. He believed that by using these classic grape varietals, he could produce wines of exceptional quality and character that would stand out in the highly competitive California wine industry.
One of the defining moments in the winery's history came in 1992 when Vino V Wines released their first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine quickly gained critical acclaim and established the winery as a serious player in the California wine scene. The success of the Cabernet Sauvignon propelled Vino V Wines into the spotlight and led to an increased demand for their wines both domestically and internationally.
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Vino V Wines continued to grow and innovate. Victor Vincenzo's commitment to excellence and unwavering attention to detail guided the winery's expansion. He implemented modern techniques and invested in state-of-the-art equipment to enhance the winemaking process without compromising the winery's dedication to traditional craftsmanship.
In the early 2000s, Vino V Wines made a bold decision to embrace sustainable and organic farming practices. Victor Vincenzo believed that by respecting the land and working in harmony with nature, the winery could produce wines that reflected the unique terroir of the region. This commitment to sustainability not only benefited the environment but also resulted in wines with greater depth, complexity, and a true expression of their origins.
As the years went by, Vino V Wines continued to push boundaries and experiment with new grape varietals. In 2010, they introduced a limited production of Viognier, a white grape variety originating from the Rhône Valley in France. This offering quickly gained a devoted following and further solidified Vino V Wines' reputation as an innovative and dynamic winery.
Today, Vino V Wines remains a family-owned winery, with Victor Vincenzo's son, Anthony, taking the helm as the head winemaker. Anthony, having learned the art of winemaking from his father, brings his unique perspective to the winery, ensuring that the traditions and values established by Victor Vincenzo continue to be upheld.
The winery's portfolio has expanded over the years to include a diverse range of wines, from their signature Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier to other delightful varietals, including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Zinfandel. Despite their growth and success, Vino V Wines remains committed to producing limited quantities of high-quality wines that showcase the best of California winemaking.
In conclusion, Vino V Wines has a rich history rooted in the determination and passion of its founder, Victor Vincenzo. From its humble beginnings to becoming a respected name in the California wine industry, the winery's commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability has been the driving force behind its success. With each bottle they produce, Vino V Wines continues to capture the essence of the region's unique terroir, ensuring that their wines are cherished by wine enthusiasts worldwide.
Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
