Tedeschi Family Winery
History
Tedeschi Family Winery, nestled in the heart of California's world-renowned Wine Country, is a captivating establishment with a rich and fascinating history. Founded in 1931 by the visionary Italian immigrant, Domenico Tedeschi, the winery has persevered through numerous challenges, embodying the Tedeschi family's unyielding passion for winemaking and commitment to producing exceptional varietals.
Domenico Tedeschi, hailing from Piedmont, Italy, brought with him a deep-rooted knowledge of winemaking traditions passed down through generations. He settled in the Sonoma Valley, captivated by the region's picturesque landscapes and its promising potential for producing premium wines. With the acquisition of a small plot of land, Domenico began cultivating vineyards and embarked on his winemaking journey.
The early years were marked by perseverance and hard work. Domenico tirelessly cultivated his vineyards, hand-selecting the best grape varietals and mastering the art of winemaking. His dedication bore fruit as his wines began to earn accolades and gain recognition within the local community.
However, the challenges of Prohibition in the 1920s posed a significant obstacle for the winery. Forced to halt all wine production, Domenico turned his attention to cultivating alternative crops to sustain the family business. Throughout this tumultuous period, he never lost sight of his ultimate dream: to reconnect with winemaking once Prohibition was repealed.
Finally, in 1933, with the end of Prohibition, Domenico joyfully transitioned Tedeschi Family Winery back into full operation. The winery flourished under his guidance, gaining a reputation for producing robust red wines and elegant white varietals that captivated wine enthusiasts across the state.
Domenico's unwavering dedication to his craft and passion for winemaking were inherited by his son, Giovanni Tedeschi, who succeeded him as the winery's new steward. Giovanni further elevated the winery's profile, nurturing the vineyards and mastering innovative winemaking techniques. During his reign, Tedeschi Family Winery enjoyed tremendous success, earning acclaim for its refined wines. Giovanni's meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality laid the foundation for the winery's continued growth.
In the late 20th century, Tedeschi Family Winery entered a new era under the leadership of Domenico Tedeschi Jr., the third generation to uphold the family legacy. Domenico Jr. modernized the winery, introducing sustainable farming practices and implementing advanced winemaking technologies. With a keen focus on environmental stewardship, the winery flourished, producing wines that were revered for their exceptional quality and distinctive character.
Today, Tedeschi Family Winery stands as a testament to the family's enduring commitment to winemaking excellence. The vineyards span across picturesque hillsides, benefiting from the region's unique microclimates and rich soils. The winery continues to craft a diverse portfolio of wines, each one showcasing the terroir and the family's generations-long expertise.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
