What Makes Spelletich Cellars Different From Other Nearby Wineries?

Firstly, one distinctive aspect is their commitment to craftsmanship and tradition. Established in 1992 by owner and winemaker Barb Spelletich, the winery has upheld a philosophy rooted in old-world winemaking techniques. Barb, with her extensive experience and passion for winemaking, produces wines that are carefully handcrafted with great attention to detail, ensuring only the highest quality.

Another factor that sets Spelletich Cellars apart is their distinct approach to blending. Unlike many wineries that focus on single varietal wines, Spelletich Cellars excels in creating exceptional, well-balanced blends. Barb recognizes that blending different grape varietals harmoniously can result in wines with greater complexity and depth of flavors. This unique blending technique has gained recognition and accolades for Spelletich Cellars, solidifying its reputation for producing outstanding and memorable wines.

Furthermore, Spelletich Cellars prioritizes sustainability in their winemaking practices. They have taken numerous steps to minimize their ecological impact, such as utilizing solar power, recycling water, and practicing organic farming whenever possible. By embracing environmentally friendly practices, Spelletich Cellars not only ensures the preservation of California's natural resources but also promotes the production of wines that reflect the essence of the region's terroir.

Additionally, Spelletich Cellars offers a one-of-a-kind wine experience for visitors. The winery provides various tasting experiences, including personalized tastings and winemaker-led tours, allowing guests to gain insights into the winemaking process and interact with the knowledgeable staff. This emphasis on providing educational and engaging experiences sets Spelletich Cellars apart from other wineries that may offer more standard tastings.

Lastly, Spelletich Cellars has a diverse portfolio of wines that caters to a wide range of tastes. From bold and robust reds to crisp and refreshing whites, their extensive selection ensures that there is a wine suited to every palate. Moreover, they offer limited-production and reserve wines, giving wine aficionados the opportunity to savor unique and rare creations not easily found elsewhere.

Spelletich Cellars is a renowned winery located in the heart of California's Napa Valley. Founded in 1994 by husband and wife team, Barbara and Tim Spelletich, the winery has become synonymous with producing exceptional wines that showcase the unique characteristics of the region.

The story of Spelletich Cellars begins with Tim Spelletich, a passionate and skilled winemaker. Tim's journey in the wine industry started long before the inception of the winery. He initially learned the art of winemaking from his Italian-born grandfather, who imparted his knowledge and love for wine to Tim from a young age.

After years of honing his craft and gaining invaluable experience working for several prestigious wineries in California, Tim had a dream of starting his own winery. He wanted to create wines that not only captured the essence of the Napa Valley terroir but also reflected his own winemaking style and vision.

In 1994, Tim's dream became a reality when he and Barbara founded Spelletich Cellars. Together, they set out to craft wines that showcased the quality and potential of the region's grapes. They sourced grapes from premier vineyards in Napa Valley and other prized wine regions across California, ensuring that each varietal exceeded their expectations.

One of the key philosophies at Spelletich Cellars is their commitment to handcrafted winemaking. Tim and Barbara firmly believe that attention to detail and a hands-on approach are critical in creating exceptional wines. From vineyard management to harvest, fermentation, oak aging, and bottling, every step of the winemaking process is meticulously executed to ensure the highest level of quality.

Spelletich Cellars quickly gained recognition for its consistent and outstanding wines. Their portfolio includes a diverse range of varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and more. The winery's commitment to producing limited quantities of each wine allows for meticulous attention to detail and the ability to maintain exceptional quality across their entire lineup.

Over the years, Spelletich Cellars has garnered numerous accolades for their wines, solidifying their reputation as one of Napa Valley's premiere wineries. The winery has also actively participated in various wine events, tastings, and competitions, allowing wine enthusiasts and critics alike to experience and appreciate their exceptional offerings.

Beyond their dedication to winemaking, the Spelletich family has also embraced sustainability practices. They prioritize environmentally-friendly vineyard management techniques, such as organic and biodynamic farming methods. This commitment to sustainability ensures the preservation of the vineyards and the surrounding ecosystem for future generations.

Today, Spelletich Cellars continues to thrive under the leadership of Tim and Barbara, with the addition of their daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Marc Wasserman, who joined the family business in recent years. Together, they continue to push the boundaries of winemaking, crafting wines that blend tradition with innovation, and further cementing the winery's legacy in the ever-evolving world of California wines.

Spelletich Cellars is not just a winery; it is a testament to passion, perseverance, and a genuine love for winemaking. Introduction

Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!

I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....

After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.

Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.

Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.

As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.

Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
