What Makes Jaffurs Wine Cellars
Different From Other Nearby Wineries?
Jaffurs Wine Cellars stands out among the many wineries in California's renowned wine region for several compelling reasons.
First and foremost, Jaffurs Wine Cellars is dedicated to producing exceptional, handcrafted wines that uniquely reflect the terroir of Santa Barbara County. The winery focuses primarily on Rhône varietals, such as Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier, which thrive in the cool climate and diverse soils of this region. This specialization allows Jaffurs to showcase the true character and potential of these grapes through their expert winemaking techniques.
One distinguishing aspect of Jaffurs Wine Cellars is their commitment to organic farming and sustainable viticulture. Recognizing the importance of environmental stewardship, the winery avoids the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides, opting instead for natural methods to nurture the vines and maintain soil health. By prioritizing sustainability, Jaffurs ensures that their wines not only taste exceptional but also embody an ethos of respect for the land and the broader ecosystem.
Furthermore, Jaffurs Wine Cellars takes a hands-on approach to winemaking, carefully overseeing every step of the production process. They adopt traditional techniques, including hand-harvesting the grapes at optimal ripeness and gently destemming them to preserve their natural flavors. This meticulous attention to detail extends to the cellar, where the wines are aged in a combination of French oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks, allowing for balanced and nuanced flavor development.
Jaffurs Wine Cellars also distinguishes itself through its limited production approach. While some wineries prioritize quantity, Jaffurs prioritizes quality and craftsmanship by intentionally keeping their production levels low. This means that each bottle of wine is crafted with utmost care and receives the individual attention it deserves, resulting in an exceptional and distinctive final product.
Beyond their winemaking prowess, Jaffurs Wine Cellars offers an inviting tasting room experience that sets them apart. Visitors are welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable staff who are passionate about sharing their love for the wines and the winery's story. The relaxed and intimate ambiance of the tasting room allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the Jaffurs experience and gain a deeper appreciation for the wines they are savoring.

Moreover, the inviting tasting room experience offered by Jaffurs leaves a lasting impression on visitors, fostering a deeper connection to the winery and its wines.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
