What sets Casa Nuestra apart from other wineries in the area is its commitment to preserving tradition, embracing innovation, and maintaining a strong sense of authenticity.

One of the distinguishing factors of Casa Nuestra is its rich history. Established in 1979, Casa Nuestra has stood the test of time and remains one of the oldest wineries in Napa Valley. The winery is nestled on a magnificent Victorian estate, which adds an element of charm and elegance to the overall experience. This historical significance adds a layer of depth and character to the winery's wines and ambiance.

At Casa Nuestra, their winemaking philosophy revolves around the idea of minimal intervention. They believe that great wines are made in the vineyard, and therefore take a hands-on approach to grape growing. The winery practices sustainable farming techniques, prioritizing the health of the land and the longevity of their vineyards. This focus on organic and sustainable agriculture not only ensures the production of high-quality grapes but also contributes to the preservation of the local environment.

What truly sets Casa Nuestra apart is its diverse portfolio of grape varietals. While most wineries in Napa Valley focus primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, Casa Nuestra takes a different approach. They specialize in crafting small-batch, limited-production wines from lesser-known varietals such as Chenin Blanc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot. This focus on unique varietals allows Casa Nuestra to showcase the true versatility and potential of the Napa Valley terroir.

Additionally, Casa Nuestra is renowned for their expertise in blending different grape varietals. Their winemakers carefully select and combine different grapes, creating complex and harmonious blends that are a true reflection of the region's terroir. This dedication to blending excellence results in wines that are not only delicious but also thought-provoking and memorable.

Another aspect that sets Casa Nuestra apart is their commitment to providing an intimate and personal tasting experience. Unlike other larger and more commercialized wineries, Casa Nuestra has a cozy and welcoming tasting room, where visitors can enjoy a customized tasting flight that suits their preferences. This personalized approach allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the Casa Nuestra experience and develop a deeper appreciation for their wines.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!

I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....

After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.

Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.

Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.

As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.

Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
