History
Caraccioli Cellars is a distinguished winery located in the heart of California's esteemed wine region, the beautiful Monterey County. The Caraccioli family has a rich history deeply rooted in winemaking. Tracing their heritage back to Italy, where their great-grandfather was involved in the wine industry, Michelangelo and Giovanni were inspired to continue the family legacy in California. With a passion for crafting wines of uncompromising quality, they embarked on a journey to create a winery that would showcase the unique characteristics of Monterey County's remarkable terroir.
The Caraccioli brothers set their sights on the Santa Lucia Highlands, a renowned appellation known for its ideal climatic conditions and well-drained soils. These factors contribute to the cultivation of grapes with exceptional flavor development and complexity. It was in this remarkable setting that Caraccioli Cellars was born.
From the outset, the Caraccioli brothers made a commitment to produce sparkling wines of distinction. They recognized the potential of Monterey County's cool climate for crafting exceptional sparkling wines that could rival those produced in traditional regions such as Champagne, France. To attain this level of quality, they made the bold decision to exclusively focus on the labor-intensive method of "Méthode Champenoise," which involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle, providing the wines with incredible depth and elegance.
The dedication to their craft paid off, and Caraccioli Cellars soon gained recognition as one of California's premier producers of sparkling wines. The winery's first release, the Caraccioli Cellars Brut Cuvée, received critical acclaim and set the stage for the exceptional wines that would follow.
Over the years, Caraccioli Cellars expanded its portfolio to include still wines as well, showcasing the dynamic varietals that thrive in Monterey County. The winemaking team carefully selects grapes from the region's finest vineyards, focusing on varietals such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in the cool climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands. These grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously crafted into wines that display both elegance and an unmistakable sense of place.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
