Ca’ Del Grevino History

Ca' Del Grevino is a renowned winery located in the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley of California. The winery's rich history dates back several decades, boasting a legacy that has contributed to the thriving wine culture of the region.

The journey of Ca' Del Grevino began in the early 1980s when the renowned wine enthusiasts Marvin and Paulette Teixeira identified the potential of the Santa Ynez Valley as a prime location for grape cultivation. The couple embarked on a venture to transform their passion for wine into a flourishing business. In 1982, they purchased a 52-acre property in what is now known as the Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard.

Initially, the Teixeiras focused on cultivating high-quality Chardonnay grapes, recognizing the region's unique climate and soil composition as ideal for this varietal. As their vineyard thrived, they expanded their operations and planted additional grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Grenache, accompanied by a commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices long before they became industry standards.

In 2003, the Teixeiras further expanded their enterprise with the acquisition of an adjacent vineyard property. This additional investment enabled them to broaden the range of wines produced by Ca' Del Grevino. The vineyard's exceptional terroir and microclimates offered unique growing conditions, allowing the winery to experiment with different grape varieties and winemaking techniques.

As time went on, Ca' Del Grevino made significant advancements in winemaking, developing a reputation for their exceptional craftsmanship and commitment to producing high-quality wines. Their dedication to sustainable practices and traditional winemaking techniques earned them accolades from both wine critics and casual enthusiasts.

In 2015, the Teixeira family decided to take Ca' Del Grevino to new heights by opening a state-of-the-art winery facility within their vineyard estate. The modern facility incorporates sustainable design elements while maintaining the winery's commitment to traditional winemaking practices.

Ca' Del Grevino's commitment to excellence is evident not only in the quality of their wines but also in their dedication to hospitality. Along with the winery, they built a charming tasting room, offering guests a warm and inviting atmosphere to indulge in their award-winning wines.

Today, Ca' Del Grevino stands as a testament to the legacy and vision of the Teixeira family. Introduction

Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!

I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....

After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.

Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.

Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.

As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.

Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
