Baldacci Family Vineyards
History
Baldacci Family Vineyards, nestled in the beautiful Napa Valley of California, has a rich and captivating history that dates back to the early 1950s. The story of this acclaimed winery is a testament to the perseverance, passion, and commitment of the Baldacci family.
The winery's roots can be traced back to the arrival of Jospeh Baldacci, a first-generation American, from the small Tuscan village of Barga, Italy, in the 1920s. Joseph settled in the Napa Valley and began his journey in the wine industry by working as a grape picker and later as a vineyard manager for the iconic Inglenook Estate.
In 1953, Joseph's son, Thomas Baldacci Sr., followed in his father's footsteps and became deeply involved in the wine business. Thomas Sr. worked alongside some of the most respected figures in the valley, including Napa Valley's godfather of wine, Robert Mondavi. This invaluable experience laid the foundation for his own winemaking ambitions.
Thomas Sr. purchased his first vineyard in 1962, which he aptly named the “Vergianna Vineyard” as a tribute to his Italian heritage. This marked the beginning of the Baldacci family's winemaking legacy.
Through hard work and dedication, the Baldaccis continued to expand their vineyard holdings, focusing on finding the best terroir in the Napa Valley. In 1997, they acquired the esteemed Stags Leap District vineyard, which would go on to be recognized as one of the most exceptional vineyards in the region. The family renamed it the “Baldacci Family Vineyard” to reflect their commitment to craftsmanship and excellence.
With meticulous attention to detail, the Baldaccis transformed their vineyards into a premier winery known for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. They utilized sustainable farming practices, embraced innovation, and nurtured their vines with great care, resulting in grapes of exceptional quality.
In 2003, the Baldacci Family Vineyards released its inaugural vintage, making a stellar impression on critics and wine lovers alike. The winery garnered critical acclaim for producing outstanding wines that seamlessly combine elegance, power, and balance. Their commitment to crafting wine with character and authenticity quickly solidified their place among Napa Valley's elite wineries.
To this day, the Baldacci family remains actively involved in every aspect of their winemaking process, from tending to the vineyards to meticulously crafting each bottle of wine. Their unwavering dedication has allowed them to establish themselves as one of the most respected and sought-after wineries in the region.
Whether it's their renowned Cabernet Sauvignon, rich red blends, or vibrant white wines, Baldacci Family Vineyards continues to create memorable and distinct wines that showcase the true essence of the Napa Valley.
By combining a deep respect for tradition with a spirit of innovation, the Baldacci family has created a winery that exemplifies the California dream and serves as a testament to the power of passion and determination. The legacy of the Baldaccis lives on in every bottle, telling a story of love for the land, commitment to quality, and boundless appreciation for the art of winemaking.
Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
