Established in 2007 by winemaker and owner Justin Harmon, Argot has rapidly gained recognition for its unique and handcrafted wines. With a total production of just a few thousand cases annually, Argot Wines stands out as a true gem in the California wine scene.
What sets Argot Wines apart is their meticulous approach to winemaking. Harmon personally selects top-quality grapes from some of the finest vineyards across Sonoma County, ensuring that each varietal represents the region's distinct characteristics. From the moment the grapes are harvested until the wine is bottled, every step is executed with a precision that reflects Harmon's attention to detail and passion for winemaking.
One of the standout offerings from Argot Wines is their Chardonnay, which showcases the true potential of this varietal in California. The grapes are sourced from cool-climate vineyards, resulting in a wine that balances richness and elegance. The Chardonnay exhibits vibrant flavors of citrus, ripe pear, and a touch of vanilla, all harmoniously integrated with a subtle minerality and refreshing acidity.
Another celebrated wine that Argot produces is their Pinot Noir. What Makes Argot Wines
Different From Other Nearby Wineries?
Argot Wines stands out as a truly unique winery in the California region due to several distinctive factors that make them different from other wineries. Firstly, Argot Wines focuses on producing small-batch wines, which allows them to pay meticulous attention to every detail of the winemaking process. By limiting the quantity of wine produced, they can prioritize quality and create exceptional wines that truly reflect the essence of their vineyards.
Another aspect that sets Argot Wines apart is their commitment to sourcing grapes from diverse and often overlooked vineyards. While many wineries in the region may rely on more established vineyards, Argot Wines seeks out hidden gems and lesser-known vineyards. This approach enables them to craft wines that showcase the distinct terroir and unique characteristics of these special sites, offering a truly authentic tasting experience.
Additionally, Argot Wines has a creative and nonconformist winemaking philosophy that pushes boundaries and challenges traditional norms. They embrace experimentation, allowing them to explore innovative techniques and create wines that are both intriguing and thought-provoking. This dedication to exploration and taking risks sets them apart from wineries that may be more conventional in their approaches.
Moreover, the winemakers at Argot Wines possess a deep understanding and appreciation for art, music, and literature. They believe that winemaking is an art form, and this perspective is reflected in their wines. Each bottle is crafted with an artistic flair, aiming to evoke both sensory and emotional experiences for the consumer. This unique blend of artistry and winemaking expertise sets Argot Wines apart, making their offerings stand out in the competitive California wine market.
Lastly, Argot Wines takes pride in fostering a strong sense of community and connection. They value building personal relationships, not only with their customers but also with the growers and producers they collaborate with. This commitment to forging meaningful connections translates into the way they approach winemaking, ensuring that each bottle carries with it a story and a sense of shared experience.
In summary, Argot Wines differentiates itself from other wineries in the California region through its focus on small-batch production, sourcing from unique vineyards, embracing creativity and innovation, integrating artistry into winemaking, and nurturing a strong sense of community. These factors combined make Argot Wines an exceptional choice for wine enthusiasts seeking a truly distinctive and unforgettable tasting experience.
What Some Possible Concerns About Argot Wines
?
It seems like there are not many negative reviews or complaints about Argot Wines. However, to provide a well-rounded perspective, here are a few aspects that some people might not prefer about the winery:
1. Limited production and availability: Argot Wines practices small-scale production, resulting in limited quantities of their wines. This can make it challenging for people to access their wines, especially if they are not readily available in local retail stores or online platforms.
2. Higher price range: Argot Wines' premium quality and limited production often result in higher prices. Some individuals may feel that the wine's cost is not justified, particularly if they prefer more affordable options or are looking for budget-friendly wines.
3. Minimal amenities and facilities: Argot Wines focuses primarily on producing exceptional wines and may not offer extensive facilities or amenities typically found at larger wineries. For those seeking a comprehensive winery experience, including restaurants, picnic areas, or guided tours, Argot Wines may not meet these expectations.
It is essential to note that these drawbacks might not significantly impact everyone's experience and are subjective to personal preferences.
Argot Wines
History
Argot Wines is a small yet highly esteemed winery nestled in the heart of California wine country. Founded in 2006 by two visionary individuals, Justin Harmon and Marybeth Egner, Argot Wines has quickly made its mark in the world of winemaking, earning a reputation for producing exceptional, handcrafted wines.
The story of Argot Wines begins with Justin Harmon, a self-taught winemaker with an insatiable passion for wine. Justin's journey in the wine industry began during his college years, where he found himself drawn to the diverse wine regions of California. Eager to learn more, he immersed himself in the world of winemaking, soaking up knowledge from experienced winemakers and taking part in harvests across the state.
It was during these formative years that Justin met Marybeth Egner, a sommelier with an equally deep love for wine. Together, they shared a dream of creating wines that would showcase the unique terroir of the California vineyards they had come to know and love. They recognized the potential to craft wines that expressed both a sense of place and their own personal artistic expression – a vision that would become the foundation of Argot Wines.
In 2006, Justin and Marybeth founded Argot Wines in their garage in Sonoma County. They began with just a few hundred cases, sourcing grapes from premium vineyards across the region. Their approach was deeply personal, with Justin meticulously selecting vineyards known for their exceptional fruit and working closely with growers to ensure the highest quality grapes.
From the beginning, Argot Wines prioritized quality over quantity. The winery prides itself on its careful, hands-on approach to winemaking. Justin and Marybeth believe that truly great wine is created when the winemaker connects intimately with the land and the grapes, nurturing the process from vine to bottle. This philosophy has set the stage for Argot Wines to produce limited-production wines that display a sense of artistry and individuality.
Argot Wines quickly garnered attention within the wine industry for their exemplary offerings. Critics and collectors alike were captivated by the wines' depth, complexity, and exceptional balance. Each vintage brought forth new accolades and increased recognition, solidifying Argot Wines' status as one of California's most exciting up-and-coming wineries.
Over the years, Argot Wines has expanded its portfolio, showcasing a diverse range of varietals and vineyard sites. Justin and Marybeth continue to push boundaries, seeking out new vineyards and experimenting with different winemaking techniques. They never lose sight of their original vision, always striving to create wines of profound character that express the essence of the sites from which they hail.
Today, Argot Wines is revered for its dedication to producing boutique wines with a sense of intrigue and soul. While their production remains limited, their reputation continues to soar. Each bottle of Argot wine is a testament to the founders' unwavering passion, unwavering commitment to quality, and their unyielding pursuit of vinous excellence.
As Argot Wines evolves and shapes its own unique legacy within the California wine industry, it remains a beacon for those who appreciate wines that are thoughtfully crafted, expressive, and undeniably memorable.
Introduction
Hello, my name is Franklin Laurel - Welcome!
I started drinking wine in 1992 when I was in my early twenties and recently married. Like many other young Southern Californians, it started out with White Zinfandel. As we were a couple of young DINKs just beginning life together, and on a budget, our go-to-wine was Sutter Home White Zinfandel, which tasted a lot like wine coolers and probably cost at the time $2.49. If we really were going to splurge, we would step it up and buy Beringer White Zinfandel for $2.99. Those were the days....
After a little time, we decided to get fancy. We stepped up our game and bought some wonderful 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. The Charles Shaw (Trader Joe's Exclusive Label) wine, also known as 2-Buck-Chuck extended our pallet into Reds for only $1.99 a bottle. Over the years we continued to grow in our understanding of wine (finally ran into some good wine) and we slowly kept buying better and better bottles.
Our first wine club purchase was from Kenwood's Vineyards, in Kenwood, California located in Sonoma Valley, right next to the famous Napa Valley. I began to learn about tobacco leather, and earthiness, and lots of other strange terminology when tasting their signature Zinfandels (of the red variety). So that is how it all began.
Fast forward a couple decades, and we have been members of five different wine clubs, and now have a passion for California's red wines. My favorite by far is Cabernet Sauvignon, while my wife fancies a good Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot - but she also loves the smell of a wine barrel room, which is all about the notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
As I come across great wine resources and useful information that I find in planning my own wine trips, I will share here for anyone that might stumble across my humble website.
Cheers! - Franklin Laurel
